Abandoned at birth due to his ‘demon eyes’, the mutant baby was stolen from the safety of the hospital by the head of the thieves guild, Jean Luc. Jean Luc’s task was to retrieve the mutant baby && hand him over to Antiquary, a collector of super-powered children. There Remy was given the title of ‘le Diable blanc.’ (The white devil.)

Jean Luc, however, couldn’t live with the idea of the abandoned baby being left with Antiquary, instead, Jean Luc arranged for the stolen baby now named Remy to live among a gang of street kids in New Orleans where the guild could keep a watchful eye on him.



THE DEVIL WAS ONLY A FEW MONTHS OLD WHEN HE GOT HIS FIRST NAME... REMY.



&& so Remy lived day by day, stealing to eat, living among the orphaned && unwanted children in the alleyways of New Orleans. Due to his eyes, many people still seemed to fear him leading to a lonely childhood.

At age eight, Remy ran into a little girl around his age getting attacked, without thinking Remy instantly jumped into action, && together they were able to escape the thugs. As it turned out the girl was Bella Donna the granddaughter of the head of the assassins guild. She became Remy’s first real friend.

A few weeks later Remy attempted to pickpocket Jean Luc himself, [ A set up by the thieves guild.] feeling impressed && amused the man took young Remy into his household as a son, adopting the abandoned child && giving him the last name of LeBeau. For the first time, Remy had a family to call his own, instantly getting along with his cousin && new brother.

Under Jean Luc guidance, the boy grew to teenagehood mastering the arts of thievery && working for the thieves guild. Made into a full fledged thief, Remy was in charge of his younger cousins initiation into the guild.

The boys were tasked with stealing something from another thief. During their mission, the two teenage boys where caught && captured. They were SOLD to the renown gangster && slave trader named PIG, who planned to sell Remy to H.Y.D.R.A as a mutant child soldier.

It was during his capture, that Remy gained both his iconic nickname “GAMBIT” which he would later utilize as his code name, but he also awakened his mutant powers during a escape attempt. desperate && afraid, both boys jumped into the ocean in a desperate attempt to escape their captors. Remy survived, but his cousin died.

REMY LEBEAU WAS ONLY FIFTEENTH YEARS OLD WHEN HE TOOK MIDDLE NAME FOR HIMSELF... REMY ETIENNE LEBEAU.

Wanting to settle the conflict between the Waring Guilds, Jean Luc arranged for a wedding between Remy && his childhood friend and now sweetheart, Bella Donna. Their union was to bring peace to the families. On the wedding day, however, everything ended in tragedy.

Only minutes after their union was sealed with a kiss, Bella Donna’s brother disapproving of his new mutant thief brother in law, challenged Remy to a duel. Unable to control his powers, especially when emotions are heightened Remy accidentally killed his new brother in law. In order to keep the peace, Remy was banished from New Orleans, on the threat of an all out gang war.

REMY ETIENNE LEBEAU WAS BARLEY EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD WHEN HE LEFT HIS NAMES BEHIND, ALONG WITH HIS FAMILY. NOW CALLING HIMSELF... GAMBIT.

Now alone, Remy’s powers LV rapidly accelerated, it grew quick than his control. Losing more && more control each day, Gambit lived in isolation, fearful that at any moment he might kill another, or that he will end up accidentally harming himself. Anything he touched, that wasn’t organic would blow up in his face, making him a danger to himself && others.

Out of desperation, Gambit turned to Mr.Sinister, a mutant scientist who said he could help. In return for the help, Gambit had to assemble a deadly team && lead them through the sewers safely. It was only partway through this task that Gambit started to realize these other mutants had been tasked with killing all the mutant inhabitants that lived in the sewers. Realizing this Gambit did all he could in order to save the Morlocks, only managing to save one child named Serah. From then on Gambit lived as a thief for hire till he met Storm and joined the x-men.
